Developing Profit with Online Sales Promotions Promotional Mix is consists of 4ps (Sales promotion, advertising, personal selling, and publicity/public relations) and has a very significant role to play in Business success .Basically, Sales promotion is concerned with ensuring that customer are aware of the different products manufactured by companies and makes available to their customers (Rowley J. 1998).Promotion alters consumer behaviour beyond the normal price/quantity trade-off, change in buying time of the product, as well as how much the customer buys (Blattberg et al., 1995). Marketing Communication is one of the very important Marketing activities and is generally preferred to the term PROMOTION. All of the Marketing communication activities are the form of promotion that is in one way or another try to promote product range brand and/or company (Rowley J. 1998). The Internet is a best tool to provide an efficient way for, Marketing communication. It has been observed that the adoption of the Internet is faster than any other media. Other Medias like Radio (took 38 years) and TV (took 13 years) to reach 50 million users, whereas Internet took only five years to achieve this level (Ellsworth and Ellsworth, 1997). Companies are also conducting promotional programs using social networking websites such as Facebook, Orkut, Hi5, and Twitter. Many researchers realized that Internet would improve the Marketing communication process and it will increase future sales. Internet websites act like an information provider, and organizations encourage customers to visit their websites. Tools such as print advertising, text messaging and broadcast are being used to bring about such visits (Harridge and March, 2004). The development of different tools of promotion, such as sales promotion, advertising and direct marketing have been improved by the development of the technology, which has offered the potential to communicate with customers ( Harridge and March, 2004).This has been done in order to maximize the effectiveness of the tools, but to achieve this a unified integration is needed ( Cornelisessen and Lock, 2001).The synergy generated by such a integration far outweighs the use of individual tools in isolation, although it has been suggested that the Internet has increased effectiveness and efficiency in communicating with customers ( Harridge and March, 2004). Promotions should not be considered as a simply price promotions, rather it should be considered in a broader content and will include advertising budgets, display allowance to the trade, as well as feature and display advertising activity direct to the customer (Blattberg et al., 1995). In order to meet the promotional objectives of any given promotion strategy an appropriate promotional mix must be created. The promotional mix is the mixture of two or more different promotional channels that is used to communicate a promotional message with customers (Rowley J, 1998). 1.2 Problem Discussion In year 2001, over a one third adults of the UK who accessed the Internet also purchased goods or services through it. This means remaining two-third do not shop online. Some companies have been criticized for apparently thinking that all the Internet shoppers are the same, instead of realizing that there are many reasons why a customer may visit a web site (ibid). On the other hand, due to very high competition in Market there is a massive pressure on marketers to increase their spending on the promotional mix. While at the same time top management has examined carefully that promotional expenditures are among one of the most promising areas left for cutting costs and increasing profits. This study puts extreme pressure on Marketers to develop and implement promotional programs within the constraints of tighter budgets and can contribute to their organizations. Hence, it is important to reexamine how promotional money is spent (Srinivasan and Anderson, 2008). In todays Businesses sales promotions are very important Marketing tools but they command a greater portion of the Marketing budget than advertisements. For example, in the USA investments amount on sales promotion is nearly 30 percent of what company spend on advertising alone (d Astous and Jacob, 2005) and in many European countries, expenditures on sales promotion are larger than advertising expenditures (ibid). However, advertisements are very popular and a big business on the Internet, sales promotions on the Internet are still limited. The reason behind this is that Internet is not so common in underdeveloped and developing nations and reaching customers using this technology is difficult because not everyone is accessing Internet (Kumar et al., 2005). Since there are many other problems on which research is needed and I will try to cover them in Dissertation. 1.3 Research purpose and research questions. The Purpose of my Dissertation is to provide understanding on the use of online sales promotions in todays competitive market. How it can be improved and make it more profitable? In order to achieve this purpose I have constructed the following research questions. Que1-How can the types of sales promotions for consumer goods be described? Que2-How can online environment (i.e. Internet) providing types of sales promotion be described? Methodology Purpose of Research According to Yin (2004) the purpose of Research study can be described in three categories: exploratory, descriptive, or explanatory. According to Zikmund (2000) good researchers strive for descriptive precision. Descriptive Research includes: Surveys (questionnaires, Delphi method, normative, interviews) Case studies Job Analysis Co relational studies Documentary Analysis *Development studies and, I will try to conduct questionnaires and include case studies to my dissertation. Descriptive Research is useful to find out the answer of who, what, when, where, and how, and to find the need, difference, Characteristics, and features of subgroups (ibid). Explanatory Research is conducted when we are supposed to identify the causal relationships, among variables (Zikmund, 2000). It helps in determining the best research design, selection of subjects and data collection methods. It relies on secondary Research such as literature reviewing, qualitative approaches such as informal discussion with consumers, management or employees and formal approaches through focus groups, case studies, etc. The Research purpose and questions show that this Dissertation is going to be mainly descriptive and somewhere I will use explanatory Research also to explore and find out the answers to Research questions and to draw conclusions. Research Approach In this study qualitative approach will be used. Qualitative research is used to determine the answer to Why not the How through case studies, emails, interviews, customers feedback forms, photos and videos. It is used to understand peoples attitudes, concerns, behaviours, culture or lifestyles, motivations and helps in taking Business decisions (Yin, 2004). According to Amaratunga et al., (2002) it is difficult to make accountable speech on Qualitative Research in Business economics. The purpose of my Dissertation is to enhance understanding on the use of online environment for sales promotions. On the basis of above discussion Qualitative approach is suitable and hence I will use Qualitative approach. Data collection method According to Yin (2004), for data collection, participant observations are one of the most important sources of case study. These observations provide strength of being real, contextual, and also provide understanding of interpersonal behaviour and motives. It is a mode of observation where researcher is not a passive observer. Instead, researcher may have to play many roles within a case according to situation and may participate in the events being studied (ibid). Therefore, for this Dissertation data would be collected by participant observation. Sample Selection According to Gragiano and Raulin (1997), it is not possible to collect and gain data from all the available sources to solve the research problems and to find the solutions. Techniques provided by sampling reduce the amount of data that is needed to collect from a sub-group (Saunders Thorn hill, 2000). Sample for case studies can be chosen in many ways (Yin, 2004). For my dissertation I will use judgmental or purposive sampling. According to Saunders (2000) purposive sampling enables researcher to use judgment to select cases that will best enable researcher to answer research questions and to meet objectives. Oscar Wilde himself purposefully filled his novel with a great many direct and indirect allusions to the literary culture of his times, so it seems appropriate to look back at his story - both the novel and the 1945 film version - in this way. In many ways, The Picture of Dorian Gray is a retelling of the Faust story. A temptation is placed before Dorian, as with Faust, and he falls for it--offering up his soul to get it. In fact, one of Faust's principal wishes is also to remain young. Faust and Dorian also each seduce a young woman, then lead her to her death, as well as leading the woman's brother (Valentine in Faust and James Vale in Dorian Gray to die in attempting revenge for his sister. It is also a Doppelganger story, like Adelbert Chamisso's "Peter Schlemihl" (in which Peter foolishly sells his shadow) and even more like Edgar A. Poe's "William Wilson" (in which the narrator is tormented by a schoolchum who looks and sounds exactly like him, and which ends much like Dorian Gray, with its more sinister overtones. Dorian Gray has a theme of eternal youth, bought at the price of one's soul, and continued through the destruction of others, in common with vampires as well. And, of course, Dorian Gray has to be run in the mind's eye against the backdrop of Oscar Wilde's life, particularly his affair with the young aristocrat, Lord Alfred Douglas, which eventually landed Wilde in jail for sodomy, and pretty much ended his career. Along these lines, the life of Oscar Wilde and his novel, Dorian Gray can also be compared to that of rock star Freddy Mercury of Queen and their song, "Bohemian Rhapsody." A few years previous to this sad turn of events, he writes The Picture of Dorian Gray--about a decadent, immoral murderer, who also has homosexual relations (with various young men who die, become drug addicts, commit suicide, etc.), and who dies a horrible and disfiguring death due to his evil ways. Now, we also have Freddy Mercury, who lived a flamboyant and decadent lifestyle as a sexually ambiguous rock star.

The purpose of this essay will be to discuss the historical, social and spiritual metaphor for the Exodus experience for Judaism throughout the ages. We will also discuss the ways in which the Exodus experience might parallel the salvation, conversion and the sanctification experience in Christianity.Finally we will discuss the way Islam views the Exodus experience different from that of Judaism and Christianity. By answering each of these questions effectively we hope to gain a new understanding of what God was doing for future generations through each belief. While researching the history of Judaism we see that God lays out the plan and purpose for His chosen people; we also see t he people proving their lack of desire to live according to this purpose.Even though the people of Israel were God’s chosen people, they continually failed to meet His expectations and often did whatever they wanted because they could; this included worshipping other gods. As time went on the influence became stronger until the voice and purpose of God could only be heard by a few. The teachings of Judaism are often centered on ethical or ethical-historical monotheism; meaning that professing Jews, of various backgrounds, believe in the one and only God, the God of Israel (Baron, 2011). The Exodus can be seen as prophesy as far back as Abraham.God spoke to Abraham about the bondage of Israel in Egypt and said that after a time of servitude, there would be relief. God used the great darkness and the smoking furnace to let Abraham know that their servitude to Egypt would last four hundred years and then â€Å"they will come away with great wealth† (Genesis 15:14, NLT). G od knew that there were many trials ahead under Pharaoh’s empire but in the end the Israelites would overcome (The Exodus, 2010). The social experiences began when the Israelites crossed the Red Sea. Through Moses, God commanded this large body of water to recede and let the people pass on dry land.Once they were through to safety God allowed the water to fall on their enemies and take them out. It was time for celebration; they were a free people with nothing else to fear but God; at this point the stopped to celebrate their first Passover. While leaving in such a hurry their bread had not had time to rise so every year when the Passover is celebrated we remember by not eating anything with yeast in it. When the Israelites began to travel they were led by a cloud during the day and a pillar of fire by night. Since food and water were not always available to them God provided them with Manna and spiritual water.These two things reminded them (and us) that God is always provid ing for us the things we need: physically and spiritually (Deem, 2008). The journey also brought them closer together as people. They were all suffering the same and so they were able to cling to one another and reach out for guidance. As God lead the Israelites out of Egypt and slavery He began to test them to see how faithful they would hold to Him. They were faced with a harsh and relentless environment that yielded little food and scarce water. They had to turn to God to provide for them because if not, they all would have perished in months.God provided daily manna for food and water from a rock; as long as the people relied on Him, He provided. The Exodus experience not only provided a historical, social and spiritual metaphor for Judaism but it also became the foundation for the salvation, sanctification, and conversion experience in Christianity. The Exodus experience shows us an interesting parallel with the metamorphosis of salvation in the Bible. The Old Testament story o f redemption provides a pathway for the New Testament metaphor of spiritual deliverance (Ryken, 1998).God lead the Israelites out of slavery and guided them safely throughout the challenges that they faced as a nation. Now, by accepting Jesus, the Holy Spirit will lead us throughout the trials that face us. The prophecies throughout the Old Testament show how God sanctified the people of Israel after leaving Egypt. It starts in Genesis 12:1,2 â€Å" The Lord said to Abraham leave your country, your people, and your fathers household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be blessed. This promise made by God sets the stage for the Israelites to be brought out of Egypt. I feel this experience can be compared to sanctification because God made Abraham and his decedents holy. Sanctification is to become holy. Exodus 31:33 tells us â€Å"You are to speak to the people of Israel and say, abo ve all you shall keep my Sabbaths, and for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations that you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you. † Exodus 26:2 says â€Å"Consecrate to me all the first born, whatever is the first to open the womb among the people of Israel, both of man and of beast it is mine. Also in Exodus 30:25 â€Å"You shall concrete them, that they may be most holy, whatever touches them will become holy. † I think the most important piece of scripture showing how the Exodus experience parallel’s sanctification can be found in Exodus 29:34: â€Å"There I will meet with the people of Israel, and it shall be sanctified by my glory. † The act of conversion is to accept God. In the time of the Exodus experience many in the land were pagans. God would use things like the bringing the Israelites out of Egypt to the people he is real, this was for anyone that did not believe in him.Exodus 11:3 tells us â€Å"and Jehovah gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. † Ephesians 2:8 tells us â€Å"For by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God. † Mark 16:16 says â€Å"Whatever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whatever does not believe will be condemned. † God shows us his awesomeness over and over again thru different stories in the Bible. These stories in ancient times when they happened they showed others the power of God. In today’s society these stories still serve to show people God’s greatness and bring them to Christ.When it comes to the Exodus experience there are some significant differences in views between that of the Christian and Judaism faith compared to that of the Muslim faith. The Christians, Jews, and the Muslims agree that Pharaoh had enslaved and oppressed the Jews. They also agree that Moses was used to help gain their freedom and led the Jews out of Egypt. It is in the description of these events that these religions share different views on. These differences range from important details about some of the people found in Exodus as well as the omission of some very important events.Starting with some of the smaller differences for example, one of the first discrepancies is that of the caretaker of Moses. According to the Holy Bible, Moses was placed in a basket and then put into the river. He was later found by Pharaoh’s daughter who in turn paid Moses’ mother to nurse him. He was then later returned to Pharaoh’s daughter to be raised (Exodus 2:5-9). The Qur’an states that Moses was found by Pharaoh’s household and was raised by Pharaoh’s wife (The Exodus, n. d. ).These small differences continue in the fact that the Qur’an does not mention the city of Ramses when it describes the Jews Exodus from Egypt. Although these differences in views seem minor, they begin to add up when looking at the big picture. Some o f the real different in views began with the description of the plagues. While the book of Exodus in the Holy Bible describes in great detail the ten plagues used by God to bring down divine chastisement on Pharaoh and his people, the Qur’an briefly mentions five plagues that can be an exaggeration of natural phenomena: flooding, locusts, lice, frogs and blood (The Exodus, 2010).The most important difference in views of the plagues would have to be the plague of Death of the Firstborn. While the Qur’an does not mention this, it can be found in (Exodus 11:4-5). It was this plague that the Jews sacrificed a lamb, using its blood to mark the door of their households so that the angel of death would pass over their house, sparing the life of the firstborn. This plague would lead to the celebration of Passover and be a foreshadowing of the Sacrifice that Jesus would make for the sins of man.While both Judaism and Islam fail to see Jesus Christ as the Son of God, both Judais m and Christians feel it is important to have a personable relationship with God. The religion of Islam is different in the fact that salvation does not come through a personable relationship with Allah and can only be found in abiding by the four pillars. That being said, for Christians and Jews Exodus is more about a God who saved them from slavery because He cares for His people and wants a personable relationship with them.While for the Muslims, Exodus is more about the persecution of Pharaoh who caused depravity among Allah’s people. The Exodus experience offered a new hope for the people of Israel and a foundation for Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Even though several differences are seen between the religions, they all pulled from the same experience. From this we can learn that not everyone views an experience the same but what they take from it is equally important. Catcher in the Rye Soundtrack Catcher in the Rye was a phenomenal work of literature. The novel has been able to withstand the test of time without ever making it to the big screen. Present day with a movie of the bestselling novel is coming soon, every detail must amaze the avid reader of the book. This includes, lighting, a flawless director, a cluster of A-list actors, outstanding scenery, and last but certainly not least, a soundtrack that will knock the viewer of the movie into a sense of amazement. A soundtrack can completely devastate a movie. If there is a scene where a character in the scene is crying because they lost their friend, it would definitely be strange if the music in the background was â€Å"Can’t Touch This† by M.C. Hammer. Soundtracks tell the audience what to feel whether it would be fear or excitement. With a soundtrack playing a critical position in a movie, the songs that have been chosen have transcended more than just the scenes they are pla yed in, and turned into the embodiment of some of the major themes in the movie. A great selection for the opening song would be a song by Chance the Rapper called â€Å"Finish Line†. On this song, Chance the Rapper appears to just spout sentences that just come to head like the stream of consciousness like Holden. When Holden goes on his particular tangents he usually is trying to get to a specific point, a finish line.
